Looking to do the Sani Pass a second time or just want to take in the scenery a bit longer and spend one night at the top of the Pass, then this is for you! You will be able to book some Pony Trekking or Hiking on arrival as well.
We meet at our office at 09h00, alternatively we can pick you up from your B&B or Hotel. The tour departs at 09h30 and takes approximately 2.5 hours to reach the summit, climbing a grand 2874 meters above sea level. Stopping at breath taking view sites and the border posts.
Once at the top we visit a living Basotho Village, where our experienced mountain guide will interest you on Lesotho and the hardy mountainous Basotho folk.
After this interesting cultural experience we drive back to Sani Mountain Lodge (the highest pub in Africa) for lunch (lunch at own cost), we then book you in at the Lodge for dinner, bed and breakfast.
Should you wish to horse ride or go on a guided walk in the mountains in the afternoon or on the following morning, the Lodge will make all the necessary arrangements for you.
We meet you at Sani Top Chalet at around 13h30, have lunch (lunch at own cost) and then head back down the famous Sani Pass to be back in Underberg around 16h30.
Combine both day tour options and spend a night in Mokhotlong and enjoy the vibe of this rural Basotho trading town.
Depart from Underberg (collection on route, if applicable) in a 4x4 vehicle at 08h00 and travel via the Sani Pass with a stop for early tea at Sani Top Chalet. We then travel up Black Mountain Pass for a short walk to a vantage point from where we view Thabana Ntlenyana - the highest peak in Southern Africa at 3482 meters above sea level. We then travel on to Mokhotlong via the stunningly beautiful Sehonghong Valley where we stop at “10 Riverside” for an ethnic Basotho experience which includes a visit to the Ngaka (traditional healer) and the artefact house. We then travel to Mokhotlong for dinner and to overnight.
After breakfast we drive through Mokhotlong (once billed as the most remote village in the British Empire) and stop for a short walk down the main road to view the rare Spiral Aloe (The National plant of Lesotho). We then travel to St James Mission to see the fascinating ceiling of their church. We then drive back up the Sehonghong Valley, looking for the rare Bearded Vulture on route. Once we reach Sani Top, we go for lunch at Sani Top Chalet before descending the Sani Pass back to Underberg.
